Conor McGregor drops fresh hint over Michael Chandler fight in cryptic post

Conor McGregor appears ready to make his long-awaited UFC return after posting a video of him working out on social media. ‘The Notorious’ was billed to end his three-year absence from UFC against Michael Chandler in June but he was forced to postpone the bout and pull out due to injury.
McGregor has been out of the octagon for over three years since suffering a gruesome leg break in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021. The Irishman was scheduled to return earlier this year but a toe injury scuppered those plans.
However, it appears that McGregor is chomping at the bit and ready to fight as he took to social media to show himself working out on the punch bag, hinting he is ready to finally make his long-awaited return.
McGregor posted the video on Instagram with the caption: “#FREETHEMAC” potentially suggesting that his delayed return to the octagon is now down to UFC failing to confirm a rearranged date for his fight with Chandler.
A few weeks ago he posted an angry reaction to UFC president Dana White revealing that the pair wouldn’t fight before the end of the year. McGregor replied to White’s now-deleted social media post, writing: “Ah Dana, December is the date! Bring the calendar year home with a winning event. Come on now, what’s this? I am off to altitude next month to prepare.”
Chandler swiftly responded to McGregor’s message, revealing that he’s also ready to make the fight finally happen and before the turn of the year too. “December it is,” Chandler replied, adding the handshake emoji.
Although the two fighters appear to have agreed on a date between themselves, no date has been set by the UFC. White broke his silence on McGregor and Chandler’s social media conversation, admitting how ‘The Notorious’ is desperate to make his return this year.
White told Sportsnet earlier this month: “You can imagine after I said that Conor was blowing me up going ‘I’m definitely fighting this year!’ When we get to a point where we’re setting a fight, and I believe that a Conor McGregor fight is going to happen. I will announce it. As of right now, I believe that Conor will not fight this year. Conor’s saying he wants the fight in December, we’ll see how it plays out.”
DON’T MISS…
Chandler has previously told TMZ that not everything White says can be taken as gospel. Regarding his bout against McGregor, Chandler told fans: “Dana, as much as we love him, he has also said some things that were just absolutely false in press conferences and whatnot – which, that’s his job.
“Sometimes it’s his job to give you the exact information; his job is, sometimes, to give you misinformation. So sometimes, saying the fight isn’t happening this year might mean that this fight is happening this year – just like he did when I already knew I was fighting June 29.”
